Looks like we have moved back into the top half of the table. EFL have docked Morecambe. 3 points for not paying their players on time

Not looking good for Morecambe. Or their staff actually. Hope they can pull through.

Anyone know their reasons? Is it just another case of sh*t owners? Or simply the excesses and costs of modern lower league football?

Failed to pay wages a while back, so were hit with a suspended points deduction which was due to expire in June.

The FA/FL demanded an amount of money to be deposited in a specific account, which Morecambe failed to do. Well, technically they used this money to pay wages but didn’t replenish the amount. This triggered the points deduction.

The reason for having this account is it’s based in the UK and would therefore minimise any delay in paying staff using overseas accounts.

Their owner Jason Whittingham is unliked and is blamed for their issues.

The owners used to own the rugby side Worcester Warriors, who were expelled from the sport!

Morecambe are currently up for sale, but the fans and board haven’t liked Whittingham’s handling of the sale. That said, the only person interested is a 20 year old!

I think people have been wishing for local legend Tyson Fury to save them, but he’s understandably not particularly eager. There was talk of him buying the training ground at one stage, though.

I’m fairly sure Tyson Fury already owns the training facilities but hasn’t been interested in buying the club itself.
