Around the Grounds

Gateshead blocked from competing in the PO's because Gateshead Council won't give them a 10-year lease at the Stadium to enable them to compete in the EFL.

Solihull get a bye.

Just seen that Grimsby and Notts County hold the joint highest number of relegations in the top 4 tiers (17). Thats one they forget to mention when telling us all the things they've done more of than us. And they came mighty close to being top outright.

There's always next season. It'll be another hard slog for them unless they find other investors/donators.

Their main sponsor have about had it, there won't be a lot for new quality players that could lift their standard, their poor season will impact season ticket sales for next season and the massive elephant in the room remains the crumbling stadium with no prospect on the horizon of that ever getting any better.

Not alot to look forward to if your a codhead, Scunny could be hot on their heels soon !!

Just to make it clear, it is the EFL that has rejected Gateshead due to the ground aspect - EFL rules demand a minimum ten-year lease, which has not been granted by Gateshead Council. The EFL is saying the club has had a couple of years in which to find a solution.

The Scottish FA used to have a daft rule in the 1990s that any club wishing to play in the SPL must have a minimum of 10,000 seats. Airdrieonians went bust building a new stadium and a number of others - Falkirk, Dumbarton, Stirling, Hamilton - hit hard times too. The irony is, the SFA then abandoned the rule, allowing the likes of Hamilton and Ross County admission with a much lower number of seats.

It does beg the question of to whom Gateshead Council thinks it could lease the stadium if not Gateshead FC.

Is this to do with the fact that the Stadium is an Athletics Track / Multi-use venue? And exactly how did Coventry survive given that they have played at four different stadiums over the last few years?

Edit: Seems Gateshead Council are strapped for cash and estimate the Stadium will need c.£11m spending on it in the next 10 years. The supposition is that the Council think it is a more saleable asset without a sitting tenant or two (Gateshead Harriers Athlectic Club have a similar issue) - https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/new...ad-international-stadium-could-taken-28148032

Yesterday's inevitable draw with exciting Shrewsbury means that Charlton cannot finish higher than 16th; only once in their history have they finished in a lower position in the Football League (1925-26 when they finished 21st in D3S and were forced to apply for re-election). They have also equalled their club record for league draws in a season (20) - I wouldn't bet against them drawing again at Wycombe next Saturday. Hope it was worth losing £9.56m for.

£475,000 per draw.

They're still living off 39 Lincolnshire Senior Cups.

Just watching Middlesborough v Dirty Leeds and the cameras panned onto some gents in high vis jackets emblazoned 'Pitch Incursion Team'.
It's probably my off whack sense of humour, but I couldn't help wondering if their pre match warm up involved a streaker armed with an inflatable banana being released onto the pitch in the style of the 'greyhound hare', followed by the incursion team having 30 seconds on the clock to resolve the issue.

Oxford annouce agreement with council to lease land at the Triangle- Kidlington to build new stadium.

16000 capacity, 180 bedroom hotel, restaurant, conference centre and a well being space?

Set to be the most sustainable mid size sports venue in the country, whatever that means and are planning to move in by 2026.

If it's "sustainable", how come there's a massive car park right outside. Surely park & ride by horseback is the way to go.

They will have to move by then since the lease is up on the Kassam in 2026

Much easier for us to get to if we are in the same division. Within 300-500 metres of Oxford Parkway station and the huge park & ride car park.

2026 doesn't seem that realistic though, we've struggled to get part of a stand refurbed in a year. No way do they get a new stadium 2.5 years from now.
