IPCC to investigate Bradford Fire?

West Yorkshire Police has referred itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission over the fire at Bradford City in May 1985.
 
This article makes interesting reading. Has anyone read the book by Martin Fletcher?

It's the Fletcher book I believe that has prompted the referral.
 
Given the number fires the owner had previously been involved in I'm amazed this wasn't picked up at the time.
 
It's taken some time for things to come to this. I haven't read the book but understand it raises questions regarding the number of businesses owned by the then Bradford Chairman that suffered fires. Something like 9. The original public enquirey reached a logical conclusion so not sure what will come of an IPCC case.
 
What I never understood was how come no one ever dropped a lit ciggy/match in the stand before? They must have done?
 
Given the number of sickening instances of police incompetence or worse in South Yorkshire. Over a multitude of issues including football. It'd be no surprise if there were something behind this?
I tickles me to hear cut off dates like since 1997 over 1400 cases...
These things were happening back in the 70s.

For what it's worth, seems Bradford fans are almost unanimous in wanting this to be laid to rest and not many of them have a good word to say about Fletcher.
 
Suppose if you'd lose several members of your family in it you wouldn't rest either... but hey each to their own.

Yeah, agreed.

Surely it's the same principle as the abuse cases dating back to the Saville era. They're both dead but in the case of Saville the truth has been pursued. Why not in this case?

My thoughts too but maybe he should have gone about it in another way.
Having had to endure watching it again recently my thoughts are as ever with the 56
